The latest Facebook meme is to turn your profile pic into your favorite Cartoon character.  By now you’ve no doubt seen a viral message like this:

Change your facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until Monday (December 6), there should be no human faces on facebook, but a stash of memories. This is for eliminating violence against children.

Well like most Facebook status trends this isn’t really benefiting any single organization but it does indeed raise awareness and garner some significant media attention so… hey why not?

We recommend that you go ahead and change your profile pic to a cartoon character for the weekend.  The key here is creativity people.  No standard toons, we want the boldest, craziest childhood memories to come out.  Here are some “creative” ideas:

• He-Man
• My Little Pony
• Smurfs
• Slimer from Ghostbusters
• Roger Rabbit
• Any Anime Series

If you must go with the traditional Transformers or Ninja Turtles, go ahead.  Enjoy the Facebook Cartoon Profile pic trend whilst it lasts.  But, remember to take it down Dec 6th, 2010 and keep your eye out for the next Status Update meme.

TV Personality and GGTK (Good Guy to Know) , Jimmy Kimmel , has declared today, Nov. 17th, 2010 as National UnFriend Day on Facebook.  Here is information direct from Jimmy:

Jimmy Kimmel has declared a new holiday on November 17th – National UnFriend Day. NUD is the international day when all Facebook users shall protect the sacred nature of friendship by cutting out any ‘friend fat’ on their pages occupied by people who are not truly their friends. Get ready to unfriend!

I know some of you may be thinking, “yeah, you know, this guy I was lab partner with in  high school is annoying, but why bother? I’ll just let it slide and ignore him.”

Well, you know who they said the same thing about? A guy named Hitler. Look it up.

Friendship is sacred, and Jimmy believes Facebook is cheapening it. So on November 17th, trim the “friend fat.”

There you have it folks, get out there and ditch those fake friends.  Spread the word!

Recently, Jimmy Kimmel has officially declared, November 17th National UnFriend Day (NUD).  He is requesting that everyone takes some time to sort through all of their so-called friends and “Unfriend” those who aren’t really a friend.  Here is Jimmy’s statement:

“Friendship is a sacred thing, and I believe Facebook is cheapening it,” Kimmel stated in his announcement. “I go on this Facebook, I see people with thousands of what they call ‘friends’—which is impossible. You can’t have a thousand friends. A friend is someone you have a special relationship with, not someone who asks ‘which Harry Potter character are you?’ Remember five years ago when nobody was on Facebook and you didn’t know what the guy you took high school biology with was having for lunch?  Remember how that was totally fine? Let’s go back to that.”

We completely agree Jimmy.  Our one qualm is that it is called “National UnFriend Day” considering the fact that Facebook is worldwide we recommend he changes it to World-wide UnFriend Day (WUD).  Alright, so there you have it folks…. Start removing the Facebook non-friends and getting closer with your real friends!

5. Hide from SELECTED People on Facebook Chat:

Just open Facebook Chat and click on your friends list.  Start creating a new list called “BlockList”.

Once the list is created, add those friends to the list that you want to appear offline to.
